Two vacant Circuit City big boxes filled

Two former Circuit City spaces will soon welcome new retail tenants.

Furniture Mart will fill the 25,000 square feet that Circuit City left vacant at Serramonte Plaza in Daly City, and buybuy Baby will fill 38,000 square feet formerly occupied by Circuit City at Almaden Plaza in San Jose.

Other Circuit City sites have also found success signing tenants. Marshalls has taken the Emeryville Circuit City space, and Sprouts Market will open in Circuit City's old Sunnyvale store.

The company closed over a dozen Bay Area stores as a result o its January 2009 bankruptcy. Many of the big box spaces remain vacant, including stores in Dublin and San Mateo.

Todd Oliver and Mike Costa of Terranomics Retail Services brokered the Daly City deal; Furniture Mart will take the space in April.

Don Krieger and Drew Greenspan, also of Terranomics Retail Services, handled the buybuy Baby lease.

This will be the first Northern California location of the chain, which is owned by Bed, Bath & Beyond.

Other large spaces abandoned by bankrupt retailers are also finding tenants.

An animal hospital will fill the 14,000 square feet in Los Altos left vacant by Berkeley-based Elephant Pharmacy, which went out of business in February 2009.
